little houseThe Beach

The beach is reached by a sandy track (10 minutes bike or 25 on foot) and stretches for miles in both directions. It is totally undeveloped apart from a shack where Mustapha, a local boy, sells soft drinks and lends out sun-loungers. Great for lazing about and sunbathing (always a refreshing breeze) but for exercise you can walk to Gunjur fishing village where food and drink is available (approx 1.5 hours), or simply beach-comb for shells and driftwood and dip in and out of the sea. You can swim almost anywhere here, but it is the Atlantic, so do be careful—if in doubt, ask Mustapha. You can fish from the beach too—there are quite big fish and tuition and gear can be arranged at the Lodge. And finally, it’s well worth a trip to watch the sunset—and if you start for home as the sun goes down you’ll just be back before dark.
